Deep Read
A reader that illustrates the book as you go. Deep Read is for history and long non-fiction — books full of names, places and years you half know. It draws the scene you are on, explains a name the moment you select it, and for a chapter set in 1453 it shows you the map of 1453.
Where it runs
In the browser, and on Android — including e-ink readers such as Boox devices, with a black-and-white, no-animation mode and stylus support.
What it reads
EPUB files from your own library. Chinese and English typography are both taken seriously: it ships its own serif and handwriting faces for devices that have none.

What it does
Illustrations, per chapter
Deep Read reads a chapter ahead of you, picks the scenes worth a picture, and draws them — realistic rather than painterly, and when the passage is about a place, a map before anything else. Each illustration is captioned with the passage it came from, and a dotted line under that passage takes you to the picture.
Look it up
Select a name, a place, a term. You get a short explanation of who or what it is in the context of this book, and it stays as a small note in the margin that you can reopen later. Selections can cross a page boundary; on a phone, dragging to the edge turns the page for you.
The map of that year
Open the map for a passage and Deep Read plots the places it mentions on the borders of that year — states named as they were then, with modern names available as an overlay. Step through a chapter paragraph by paragraph and watch the map follow the story.
Highlights, handwriting, and your own assistant
Highlight a passage, write on the page with a stylus, or hand a passage to the AI assistant you already use — Deep Read composes the question with the surrounding paragraph and puts it on the clipboard.
Your books and your data
Books you upload are stored for you alone. When you ask for an illustration or a look-up, the relevant passage is sent to a model to produce it; we do not use your books or your notes to train anything. Details in the Privacy Policy.
