Reading
Your newspapers, read first thing — for you. Reading opens the papers and newsletters you already pay for, picks the stories that matter, and puts a short digest in your inbox before breakfast. Anything you send it during the day comes back summarised.
Where it runs
A web app plus a morning email. On an iPhone it sits in the share sheet, so any article in Safari is one tap from a summary.
What it reads
The papers and newsletters you subscribe to, read with your own subscriptions — it never goes around a paywall you have not paid for.
Status
Private beta. We run it for ourselves and a few readers; write to us if you would like an account.
What it does
A morning digest
Every morning Reading opens the front pages of the papers you follow, picks the top stories, and writes a short summary of each. The digest arrives by email; each entry links to the full article, so the summary decides what is worth your time rather than replacing it.
Share to summarise
Send any article to Reading from your phone or browser and it comes back summarised. A long piece can be translated in full, paragraph by paragraph, next to the original. Uploaded documents — a PDF, a Word file, an ebook — get the same treatment.
Newsletters, gathered
Newsletters and feeds you follow are collected into one weekly issue, deduplicated and summarised, instead of forty separate emails.
Illustrated long reads
A long piece can be illustrated: a picture per scene, drawn by a model from the text of that scene, so a 6,000-word essay reads like a magazine feature.
Your reading and your data
Your login to each publication stays with you: Reading uses it to fetch articles on your behalf and stores no more of an article than it needs to summarise and show it to you. Summaries live in your account until you delete them. Details in the Privacy Policy.
